With a population of almost nine million, Mexico City is the capital of Mexico and the largest city in North America. It is also the oldest capital from the Americas and one of the only two cities established by Native Americans (the other one being Quito, Ecuador’s capital). Mexico City is one of the wealthiest cities in Latin America and the world and a major financial, commercial and economic hub. It is also an important tourist destination, famous for landmarks such as Zócalo (also known as Plaza de la Constitución), one of the largest city squares in the world, the Metropolitan Cathedral, the biggest cathedral in the Americas, Basilica de la Guadalupe, a major destination for pilgrims from all over the world, Coyoacán, a historic arts district which was home to personalities such as Frieda Kahlo and Diego Rivera, the floating gardens of Xochimilco, designated by UNESCO a World Heritage Site, and various wonderful parks such as the Chapultepec Zoo and Park, Parque Mexico or Parque España.
