Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands, has 750,000 inhabitants, most of them multilingual (and most of them owners of bicycles, the main means of transportation in the city), 7,000 historical monuments, over 100 canals (more than Venice), over 1,000 bridges (more than Paris), and a large number of recent, ultra-modern buildings. The famous Port of Amsterdam is the 2nd largest in the country and the 5th largest in Europe. Amsterdam is the commercial center of the Netherlands and one of the main financial centers in Europe.
